CHURCH

Dontay walked the streets of New York City, lost in thought. He hadn’t had a girlfriend in years and he was feeling lonely. As he walked, he was approached by a beautiful and persuasive missionary. She flirted with him as she spoke about her church and their small group service. Dontay was hesitant at first, but the missionary was so convincing that he eventually agreed to attend.

When he arrived at the church, he was greeted by formally dressed young adults wearing white collar shirts, black pants, and name tags. They all sat in a circle, with Dontay as the only outsider. He listened and answered questions as the group discussed their faith.

But soon, Dontay was told that he could not leave until he repented and followed the true god. At first, he thought it was a joke and said yes, just to appease them. But when they locked him in the basement for days until they believed he had repented enough, Dontay realized that this was no joke.

He didn’t understand why this was happening to him. Time after time, he was told that he was a sinner and needed to repent. Eventually, he gave in and agreed to do so.

But even after he had repented, Dontay realized that he would never be let go. He felt powerless and visualized in his head that this must happen to everyone who came to their small groups.

In the end, Dontay gave in completely. The story ends with him as a missionary on a street team, trying to convince patrons to come to a small group.
